Mill Green Museum, run by the Welwyn Hatfield Museum Service, is located just off the A1000 between Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City.
The museum is housed in the former Miller’s house, dating back to the 16th century. There are three galleries; two house local artefacts, from Roman times to the present day, the third features special exhibitions, which change regularly.
There are craft demonstrations and special events during summer weekends and staff are on hand to help with your enquiries and research.
The museum is open Tuesday to Friday 10am - 5pm and Saturday & Sunday 2 - 5pm.
Admission is free.
The Museum Service also manages the adjoining Mill, one of the few remaining water-powered corn mills still producing flour. The mill, which stands on the same River Lea site where milling took place a thousand years ago, has been carefully reconstructed and restored. Milling recommenced in 1986 after a period of 75 years.
Flour milled here is supplied to Simmons, a local bakery, who use it to produce their Mill Green loaf. Please telephone on 01707 271362 for milling times.
